What is my Biblical identity?

Being a woman walking with God, it’s important to have a clear understanding of your identity rooted in the Bible. As you read the truth about who you are because of Christ in your life, be encouraged as you step out each day in faith, knowing your worth and drawing closer to your Almighty God.

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

Who We Were Before Christ

We were born sinful into a broken world. Romans 5:12 Because of our brokenness, we are naturally self-seeking, ruled by our desires. Slaves to sin by constantly trying to satisfy our souls with temporary pleasures. Ephesians 2:1-3

Without God, we are already dead because we have lost all hope for salvation. For if we continue to live life on our own, we are to spend eternity in condemnation, separated from God. John 8:24 But to bring us back to Himself, God sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us from the grave so that we have eternal life with Him. John 3:16

We cannot save ourselves and there is nothing we can do to earn this gift of grace. But God’s immeasurable love transcends all our brokenness and redeems us through His Son. Ephesians 2:8-9

He has released us from the bondage of sin, brought us back from the dead and given us new life in Christ. Jesus has redeemed us by paying the price for us and doing what we could not do for ourselves and so our hope lives in Him alone. Romans 15:13

God’s Promises & Our Call To Faith

God created each of us in His image. We are His children and have been given the promise of eternal life with Him in heaven through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. 1 John 3:2 He created us to desire Him and be in relationship with Him. 1 John 4:19

Even though we constantly turn away from God, following our self-seeking ways, God has promised to walk with us and never forsake us through His eternal covenant. Deuteronomy 7:9 This which He has kept from the beginning of time. Titus 1:2

Though humanity fell away from God, His plan from the beginning was to restore all things back to Himself. We wait for the day when we can be fully united with Christ in heaven praising God together when creation will be restored and sin erased. 1 Thessalonians 4:17

We have been called to take up our cross and follow Him. To deny ourselves and proclaim our faith by choosing Christ as our saviour and living transformed in Him. Matthew 16:24-26 God has not left us to figure this out on our own. He has sent the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and walk with us through every part of our journey. John 14:15-17

By accepting Jesus into our lives, He gives us a new heart that is transformed and allows us to walk in His ways. Ezekiel 36:26-27 Though the journey is not easy and we continue to be sinful and disobedient to God, His love is abounding and steadfast. Ephesians 2:4-5 There is nothing we can do to separate ourselves from the love of God. Romans 8:38-39

Who We Are Because Of Christ In Our Lives

God has known each of us personally before we were formed in our mother’s womb. Jeremiah 1:5 We are His workmanship, His masterpiece and He created each of us uniquely with different gifts to be used as one body to further the kingdom. Ephesians 2:10

In Christ, we are a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 As Christ dwells within us, His great power transforms us into His image and we are no longer slaves to sin. Romans 6:6 We are no longer a part of the world and walking in its ways, but set apart because of our faith in Jesus. 1 John 5:4

We have eternal life that is secured through the blood that was shed for us on the cross and has given us a place at the table, a home in heaven with our Lord forever. Philippians 3:20 We are a part of a divine family, united as a body to walk together, serve together, bear one another’s burdens, all to the Glory of God. Ephesians 2:19-22

We have a purpose set forth by God, a holy calling on our lives that He has given through grace to serve His kingdom. 2 Timothy 1:9 We are God’s possession, chosen to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the full glory of who God is. 1 Peter 2:9

We now have unlimited and unrestricted access to the Father that no one can hinder. Romans 5:2 For when Jesus died on the cross, the gap that sin created was bridged and allowed us to go directly to God and have an intimate relationship with Him. Matthew 27:50-51

We are not alone and can confidently draw near to God to find strength, mercy and grace to help us in our times of need. Hebrews 4:16 We receive compassion and comfort from our Lord so that we can comfort others. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 God gives us solid ground to stand on and brings us joy in the journey and hardships as we trust in Him alone. Psalm 40:1-3 His presence goes with us wherever we go and He restores us when our strength is fading. Matthew 11:28-29

We have been given all we need to walk in this life through the knowledge of Him. 2 Peter 1:3 As we submit our lives to God, He gives us authority over the power of the enemy in the name of Jesus. Luke 10:19 We have been equipped with the living word of God that speaks directly into our hearts and lives and exposes all kinds of darkness in this world. Hebrews 4:12-13

Our Call To Live Transformed Lives For The Glory Of God

Christ lives in us because of the gift of salvation, but we are also called to live in Him. To live holy lives, walking as Jesus walked because we have been made holy. 1 Peter 1:14-16 This world should look at us and know that we are His because of the transformation that takes place through Christ within us. John 15:18-19

Instead of trying to rely on ourselves, we are meant to call upon God’s power in our times of need. Psalm 50:15 We cannot walk and work alone, we were bound together to allow us to accomplish things we may not have been able to do otherwise. Hebrews 10:24-25 We commit ourselves to the church so that we can be strong together, serving and reaching the world as a united people of God. Ephesians 4:16

We are called to humble ourselves before God and recognize that without Him, we are not enough, but He is sufficient for us. 2 Corinthians 3:5 We must cling to the gospel, and be reminded of our weakness without Him. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 To allow the scriptures to dwell in our hearts so that we can continue to be transformed into Christ’s likeness. To teach and walk with each other in wisdom, giving praise and thanks to God in all things through the name of our Lord Jesus. Colossians 3:16-17

We must walk in faith by trusting that God’s plans are perfect and good. Romans 8:28 We don’t need to have all the answers but to trust in the Lord that He will direct our steps. Proverbs 3:5-6 We must abide in Christ so that through abiding in Him we can bear fruit, as we cannot do this on our own. John 15:1-5

We are to set our minds on things above and not worry about the things in this world. Colossians 3:1-3 We must renew our minds and seek to do the will of God at all times so that we may know what is good and right. Romans 12:2 We are called to have compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, following in the example of Christ. To bear with one another, forgiving as the Lord forgives and loving so that we may live together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:12-15

As we continue to walk with God, we must proclaim who He is at all times and in all things. Praising Him through worship and thanksgiving for the great and mighty God that He is, our maker and redeemer. Psalm 95:1-7 Offering up sacrifices and submitting ourselves fully to God. Romans 12:1 Trusting, that as we battle against the spiritual rulers and darkness of this world, that by putting on the full armour of God, we can withstand all that comes our way in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Ephesians 6:10-18
